96 Open Source Companies Ranked by Momentum Index

*
*
Entrepreneurs are using open source solutions to attack a myriad of varied markets, such as video, content management, cloud computing and telephony with great success. We have ranked 96 venture-backed open source software companies using the Momentum Index. Sourceforge lists over 260,000 open source projects. We reviewed about 200 companies in total. We elected to focus a separate release on the open source content management space and thus have excluded some companies from the ranking. When companies combine open source with freemium pricing models, we see strong early proof of traction.

Yes these are duplicates.  Sometimes a company has multiple CrunchBase records.   In the current third  quarter data analysis the duplicate (#56) was removed and we kept the more up to date record ( http://www.crunchbase.com/company/zmanda ).  In this post #44 is the one to use.
